Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs is warning about the risks of going to Turkey for cosmetic and weight-loss procedures, after a number of recent deaths of Irish medical tourists.
Irish people have been warned about the risks of going to Turkey for cosmetic and weight-loss procedures after a number of deaths due to complications. It comes following a recent death of an Irish woman who travelled to Turkey for a medical procedure. At least three Irish people are reported to have died in Turkey after travelling for a procedure in the last year.
The department said some Irish citizens have experienced complications after treatments in Turkey, and advised travellers to discuss their plans carefully with their own specialists before committing to any procedure overseas.
St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin has said it has treated an increasing number of people over the last two years who have travelled abroad for surgery and come back unwell. This includes a number of emergency presentations due to bariatric surgery that was performed abroad.
On its website, the Department of Foreign Affairs reminds citizens who may be considering medical tourism that that all surgery contains an element of risk, stating “Individuals should seek to inform themselves of both the risks and benefits of any procedures, and are advised to discuss their plans carefully with their own doctor, dentist and/or hospital specialist before committing to any procedure abroad. Individuals should also familiarise themselves with any follow-up treatment or process that may be required, and be aware that they may encounter communication difficulties in a non-English speaking environment.”
Concerns are now growing about the rising rate of complications due to the “conveyor belt” system being adopted by some hospitals and clinics. Patients have reported being operated on at 10pm at night and seeing “trolley loads” of people waiting to undergo cosmetic and weight-loss procedures. Certain hospitals have been discharging patients to hotels for their aftercare, which Irish medics have described as extremely worrying due to hygiene and safety concerns.
Turkey has become an increasingly popular destination for Irish people seeking to have dental, cosmetic and bariatric procedures. High costs, waiting lists of up to five years and the lack of availability of certain procedures in Ireland is leading people abroad.
Some weight-loss clinics in Turkey are asking Irish influencers to promote medical procedures on their social media pages. Clinics have been messaging female influencers with large followings on Instagram about collaborating to promote bariatric surgery.
Under a set of legislative frameworks, health tourism and medical services are stringently regulated in Turkey, starting with the main law text, the Law on the Method of Execution of Medicine and Medical Sciences No. 1219 and the Law on Health Care Services No. 3359. As per this new framework, the entities, institutions, and individual empowered to offer patient care and healthcare services are closely managed and are mainly subject to licenses approved by Turkey’s Health Ministry.
While Turkey has brought in several new regulations to improve quality, as yet there is little sign of the state being able to really enforce the rules or stamp out the worst excesses.

Greece meets all the requirements to be classified as a Wellness country, and international observers and experts agree on this. The 1st Hybrid Global Wellness Economy Forum “From Opportunity to a Successful Development – The Greek Case” took part at the Ministry of Digital Governance on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, where leading international experts and global opinion leaders in the field of Health and Wellness Tourism participated. The event was held with the contribution of Elitour and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development under the auspices of Enterprise Greece and highlighted the unique investment opportunities in Greece for the development of hospitality structures that will offer health and wellness services.
Seneca Medical Group, a pioneer in the field of hair loss restoration, invests in the extroversion and development of Health Tourism and supports such initiatives. Seneca Medical Group’s clinics provide advanced hair transplant services and promote the development of Medical Tourism in Greece. Peggy Stavrianou, Director of Operations, and Nikos Pagopoulos, Medical Tourism Manager of Seneca attended a very successful forum where distinguished speakers from the field of medical tourism and wellness developed their ideas and suggestions. The international speakers agreed on the emergence of the “authenticity” of the concept of Wellbeing as a long tradition in Greece, in combination with the Mediterranean diet and the historical wealth of the country that gave birth to Medical Science, regarding the development of an extroversion strategy to attract wellness travelers. Susie Ellis, President of the Global Wellness Institute, agreed with the President of ELITOUR, Mr. Patoulis, on the identity of the “authenticity” of Greek Wellness, in which the development of Greek Wellness Tourism can invest. And he suggested that Greece be included in the Global Geography of Wellness.
The speakers underlined the importance of public-private partnerships which have helped so far to rebrand the country into a premium, safe, multi-island destination. Combined with wellness and health offerings, Greece can benefit from the thriving tourism segment which she said was growing at a rate of 20-30 percent annually.
The international community would vote for Greece as a destination catering to travelers’ well-being but also as a separate health destination. Greece, can evolve into the global center of holistic healing and rejuvenation, a global center of authentic well-being.
The introduction of innovative hair transplants in Scotland is closely associated with the acclaimed Seneca Medical Group. The clinic’s team of highly qualified doctors provides patients with hair transplant services using cutting-edge technology.
Dr. Hala Elgmati, Seneca’s Medical Director, is a hair transplant surgeon with over 8 years of experience. Dr. Hala Elgmati won the 2018 whatclinic award for excellence in patient communication, and she will answer some of our questions about hair loss.
We lose hair all the time and don’t even realize it. Hair loss is natural. We can lose up to 100 hairs per day without thinning. Hair follicles go through growth (Anagen), regression (Catagen), resting or shedding (Telogen), and evacuation cycles (Exogen). This is followed by the development of a new hair, and the cycle continues. As a result, there is no continuous growth of hair.
Hair loss, like male and female pattern baldness, can be permanent. This type of hair loss often runs in families. Only a few genes have been identified as markers for this type of hair loss.
Other types of boldness have been linked to scalp diseases like Alopecia areata and other skin autoimmune conditions.
Other types of hair loss are likely to be temporary. An illness, stress, cancer treatment, weight loss, or iron deficiency can all cause them.
That’s a difficult question to answer! This is ultimately determined by the cause and stage of hair loss. Most cases of temporary hair loss improve once the underlying cause is addressed. In these cases, Minoxidil and PRP can be used to stimulate hair regrowth.
Once established, androgenic alopecia is permanent, and the only way to regain hair is through hair transplantation. However, it is critical to use retention treatment to slow or even stop thinning in unplanted areas for as long as possible. Minoxidil, finasteride, and Autologous Hair Mesotherapy have all been shown to be effective.
Hair transplantation produces permanent results in the treated areas, but additional hair loss outside of these areas is possible and should be avoided. The procedure is painless and is performed under local anesthesia.
The use of implanters necessitates a high level of skill and experience, but they allow us to fully control the depth, direction, and angle of placement for each graft we place. This is critical for producing natural-looking results.
The following are the primary drawbacks of FUT:
The scar from FUT or strip surgery is quite visible. The exact number of grafts extracted cannot be controlled. It does not allow us to restore small areas where only a few grafts are required. We can only perform one or two FUT procedures in a lifetime. FUT takes longer to recover from and is more painful. When removing the strip, a significant number of follicles are always lost, which is unavoidable. FUT has no place in body hair extraction.
The advancement of FUE has catapulted the field of hair transplant surgery to the elite minimally invasive status. The prospect of a nearly scarless surgery appeals to both the patient and the surgeon.
The SENECA Direct FUE hair transplantation technique is a minimally invasive procedure that involves extracting hair follicles from the donor area (back and sides of the head) and implanting them directly to the affected area (recipient area). To ensure great results every time, the entire procedure is performed only by doctors trained and certified by Seneca Training & Research Centre, and under strict Seneca Quality Standardization Protocols.
During the implantation phase, we use the Implanter, a specially designed tool that allows us complete control over the depth, direction, and angle of each hair follicle placement. The transplanted hairs continue to grow for a lifetime and do not fall out, providing a 100% natural result.
15 Royal Crescent, Glasgow, G3 7SL is the address of our main clinic. We also have diagnostic centers in Edinburgh (30 Melville St, EH3 7HA) and Aberdeen (16 Carden Place, AB10 1FX).

Women suffering from hair loss frequently ask our professionals at Seneca, the causes of their hair loss, as well as the solution to their problem. A woman’s self-esteem is frequently affected by a change in her hair pattern, but more importantly, it frequently flags health issues that require attention.
Women’s hair loss can be brought on by a variety of factors, including stress, diet, lifestyle, heredity, age, and environment. Another major factor contributing to hair loss is hormonal fluctuations. For instance, 40% of women notice their hair thinning after menopause.
Alopecia is the scientific term for hair loss and is divided into two major categories, scarring, and non-scarring.
Scarring Alopecia is the category of hair loss that leads to the formation of scar tissue. Some examples of this category are Lichen, Lupus Erythematosus, Neoplasms, Trauma, Trichotillomania, etc.
Non-scarring alopecia is a category where hair loss does not lead to scarring. Some examples of this category are Androgenetic Alopecia, Diffuse Alopecia (which can be caused by drugs, endocrinopathies, etc), Alopecia Areata (autoimmune disease), etc.
The majority of hair transplant commercials may be directed toward men, but women may also suffer from Hairloss and wish for healthy, thick, and lustrous hair. Hair is frequently one of the sources of pride and confidence for women when it comes to displaying their femininity. But what happens when hair thinning appears and hair loss becomes apparent? Seneca has the best, most individualized hair loss treatment plan, that also caters to ladies as the brighter solution.
In order to stop further loss and promote hair regrowth before you make the decision to have hair transplantation, early diagnosis and treatment are essential in the case of hair loss, as they are for the majority of health issues that we deal with in our life. The choice of treatment modality depends on the cause’s diagnosis. Depending on the circumstance, the treatment may comprise so-called conservative treatments, such as topical lotions, shampoos, vitamins, and autologous mesotherapy (PRP). It is crucial to remember that none of the aforementioned therapies will completely stop hair loss; rather, they will only temporarily delay it. The only effective remedy for this is hair transplantation, which neither reverses nor interferes with any other treatments.
The Direct Fue hair transplantation method we have developed at Seneca uses hair follicles, which are extracted from the donor area (the back and sides of the scalp, i.e. the zone of permanent hair) and are implanted, each one separately, in the affected area (recipient zone), after the direction, depth and angle are determined.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and only by certified doctors, who adhere to strict quality protocols, such as the Total Care System that we have established at Seneca, after 35 years of experience in hair transplant. Once in the right position, the hair follicles develop naturally and follow their usual life cycle.
Personalized treatment is key to a successful hair transplant and a 100% natural result that will last a lifetime. This is carried out based on medical protocols, face proportions, needs, age, and expectations of the patient. The hair follicles are handpicked and extracted one by one from the donor area, using a specifically designed disposable tool.
Hair follicles are then kept at a specific low temperature and in a special preservation solution, the Hypothermosol®, which enhances their growth after the implantation. We do not split or cut the grafts. With minimum handling, we achieve the maximum growth rate.
Finally, hair follicles are implanted directly into the affected area using the Implanter, a tool with a diameter of 1mm or less, without having to create holes or slits. With the Implanter, doctors can control the depth, the direction, and the angle of placement.
As the procedure at Seneca is carried out entirely by a skilled medical doctor highly trained and certified, 99% of patients do not face any side effects. Headache, swelling, itching, or tenderness might occur in the implanted area in a few rare cases. If so, the symptoms are light,( mild painkillers can be administered )and subside within the next few days.
Within only two-three months after the procedure, the patient will see significant hair growth and in 10-12 months she will have her final, natural and beautiful result. Read here for more details on when to expect hair transplant results.
A hair transplant takes 4-6 hours and is practically painless with the use of local anesthesia. A growing number of women are choosing hair transplants, thanks to advancements in technology and machinery and ongoing information and understanding on the subject.
Seneca’s clinics, which focus on hair loss diagnosis and treatment, offer clients the chance to speak with trained consultants so that they can have a proper diagnosis for their hair loss and then a personalized treatment plan that meets their needs and preferences. Furthermore, they get the post-operative care they need to ensure a 100% natural result.
Seneca Medical Group has invested in innovative diagnostic systems and hair loss treatment systems with the aim of providing a definitive solution to the problem of hair loss in both men and women.

If you are experiencing hair loss or hair thinning issues, you may choose to have a hair transplant. At Seneca, the type of hair transplant that is performed by the trained staff is called a Seneca Direct FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). This is where the hair follicles are extracted from the donor area and implanted directly into the recipient (balding) area.
For this type of hair transplant at Seneca, it is not necessary to shave your hair before the surgery. You should start to see the results of the hair transplant within two months of having the surgery, and it can take up to 12 months to see the full results of the transplant.
Like any cosmetic surgery, hair transplants are an invasive procedure. They are not risk-free and are not to be performed on anyone under 18 years old. Always seek independent medical advice before undergoing any medical procedures.
The surgeon who will be performing the hair transplant at Seneca should provide you with advice and guidance as to how to both prepare for your hair transplant and also how to look after yourself once you have had the surgery, to ensure that your transplant can grow as well as possible.

Hair loss is an issue that concerns many men and women. Hair loss, or thinning hair, not only affects an individual’s appearance, it can also adversely impact your self-confidence.
A lack of proper information on the subject is pervasive today with many widespread myths and prejudices prevailing, which only exacerbate the problem.
Here, Seneca Medical Group, the leading medical group for hair loss treatment in Europe, addresses the popular myths around hair loss and answers many of the most common questions we hear from our patients.
Myth Number 1: “I’m in the early stages of hair loss. I don’t need to do anything yet.”
Seneca Medical Group offers a wide range of options which can significantly delay further hair loss and help strengthen and protect the quality of your hair. Seneca Pure is Seneca’s nutritional supplement which guarantees thicker and healthier hair. Seneca Pure also does not contain substances such as gluten, lactose, sugar, salt or artificial colours, which makes it a completely safe and natural solution.
Seneca also offers Autologous Hair Mesotherapy (PRP), which both delays additional hair loss and can promote the growth of new hair follicles in areas where the hair is thinning.
Myth Number 2: “My hair loss is hereditary. There’s nothing I can do about it.”
This is the most common myth and with good reason – the problem of hair loss can indeed be hereditary. This does not mean, however, that it’s irreversible. Both the nutritional supplements and Autologous Hair Mesotherapy mentioned coupled with our patented method of hair transplantation ensure a permanent, thick, and natural result, which is able to overcome even the most aggressive hereditary hair loss.
Myth Number 3: “I don’t believe hair transplants really work.”
This is one we hear all the time unfortunately due to the countless clinics, doctors, and often technicians or trainees who’ve used (and many times still use) outdated and ineffective transplant methods. Seneca uses the Direct FUE method, an evolution of the traditional FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). This innovative method combined with the rigorous protocols of Seneca ensures a successful result every time.
Myth Number 4: “I’ll only lose the transplanted hair again. What’s the point?”
The rigorous protocols we’ve developed at Seneca to support our advanced techniques guarantee a natural, permanent result every time. We select the hair follicles to be used in the transplant one by one from the donor area using only the most modern and sophisticated tools. The hair follicles are then held at a specific temperature during the transplant procedure in a special Hypothermosol® solution, which further enhances their growth after placement. Seneca never separates, cuts, or processes the hair follicles, thus achieving the maximum germination rate. Through their meticulous system, Seneca is certain of a dense, natural and permanent result for each and every transplant performed.
Myth Number 5: “I’m worried it will be obvious I’ve had a hair transplant. How can I be sure that won’t happen to me?”
We’ve also seen these photos and cringe every time. This is yet another result of hair transplants being performed by technicians, rather than doctors, without proper training who use outdated and sometimes dangerous methods. Seneca’s Direct FUE hair transplant method uses hair follicles which are extracted individually from the back of the head and implanted individually in the hair loss area, thus ensuring a painless, natural result, incisions or marks every time. The procedure is performed only by doctors certified by the Seneca Training & Research Centre, who adhere to the strict quality protocols of the Seneca Medical Group.
Myth Number 6: “I’ve heard getting a hair transplant is really painful.”
Seneca’s Direct FUE is a painless, minimally invasive method performed using only local anaesthesia. While undergoing hair transplants at Seneca’s state-of-the-art clinics, many of our patients watch TV or even sleep during the procedure. The only memory of the experience is a pleasant one —- the excellent, natural result of their new hair, which starts to appear after 2 months with the final and permanent results seen 8 to 12 months after the operation.
Myth 7 Number 7: “I can combat my hair loss with a better diet.”
While a proper and balanced diet is always helpful, problems such as hair loss, which often stem from hereditary factors unfortunately cannot be remedied with a change in diet alone. The range of Seneca’s innovative treatments and methods guarantee results at an affordable cost —- whether you’re looking for supplements alone for now, or to combine them with our Direct FUE hair transplant for a more permanent, natural result.
Myth Number 8: “I’m worried I’ll experience an allergic reaction after the procedure.”
Seneca’s Direct FUE is a completely safe procedure as rigorous protocols are followed at all of our Seneca clinics to ensure comfort and safety. 99% of patients show no complications at all following their transplant. In 1% of cases, a headache or slight sensitivity in the area where the operation was performed occurs, both of which are mild and disappear after only a few days.
Myth Number 9: “Are there really any reliable hair transplantation professionals in Greece?”
Seneca Medical Group is an award-winning medical services group trusted by clients from all over the world with some of the most experienced and qualified doctors and specialists in the treatment of hair loss worldwide. Due to rigorous protocols and advanced Direct FUE, Seneca is now leading Greece to become the new Silicon Valley in hair transplantation.
Seneca has already expanded to the UK with two clinics in Scotland, both in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and plans to open new clinics in France, the UK and the Netherlands by the end of 2022. Keep an eye out for upcoming signature medical tourism packages, which will allow you to combine a holiday in Greece with a top of the line hair transplant at a fraction of the cost in the US and many other countries.
Seneca’s Exciting Truth
Bottom Line: Don’t trust everything you read on the internet. If you want the truth on hair transplants, trust the medical professionals who’ve made it their life’s work to research this problem and develop innovative solutions that adhere to rigorous protocols to guarantee the results they promise.
If an offer online for a hair transplant package at a clinic you’ve never heard of with vague information and no mention of doctors (or where they were trained) on their website seems too good to be true, you can be sure it is.
Seneca Medical Group uses a patented Total Care System, an integrated system of diagnosis and treatment of hair loss, that ensures each client will receive a thorough, personalized recommendation for treatment according to their needs.
Seneca specialists use only the most modern diagnostic systems to individually develop each and every one of our treatment plans. If your hair loss has been bothering you for a while now and you haven’t been sure where to start, now you know an easy solution can be found in the range of affordable options available for you at Seneca.

‘‘Through this partnership, Seneca will look to strengthen its brand presence across the UK & will also be able to provide its patients with access to proper hair loss diagnosis in a fully established diagnostic centre”, says George Kottaridis, CEO of Seneca Medical Group.
When a recent client of ours in Scotland, Richard Leonard, came in for his first consultation he admitted his hair loss had become a significant concern in recent years, and he was finally hoping to do something about it. His decision to trust the Seneca Medical Group, the leading team in hair loss treatment and hair transplantation in Europe, with his transplant he now credits as being a life-changing experience. “From my first consultation with George and his team at the Glasgow clinic until the day of the procedure, I knew I was in good hands,” he explains, “Seneca let me know what to expect and supported me every step of the way.”
Richard says all of his concerns regarding the quality of the result were alleviated during his consultation once he learned the transplant would be performed with Seneca’s innovative Direct FUE method. The Direct FUE technique uses individual hair follicles, which are extracted from the back of the head (otherwise known as the donor area), and implanted directly in the affected area of hair loss. In Richard’s case, hair follicles were carefully implanted by one of our highly specialized doctors using our Implanter. This specially designed tool allows full control of the depth, direction and angle of placement of each hair follicle. The procedure itself was painless under local anaesthesia and completed in a few short hours.
“Following the transplantation, Seneca’s team gave me a detailed structured aftercare plan,”
says Richard, “And periodically called to check in on my results, which made me realize how sincere they are about their unique patient experience.” Though his transplant was only in February, Richard is already thrilled with how natural his results appear and can’t wait to see the full, permanent result in 4-6 months’ time.
“Needless to say, it isn’t easy to put your trust in a clinic’s claims for something as sensitive as your appearance,” Richard admits, “But my experience at Seneca proved to me
overcoming that fear for the amazing result that’s waiting on the other side of it is worth it. I highly recommend Seneca and consider them the platinum standard in hair transplantation and customer service.”

Hair transplantation is an innovative medical procedure that, when performed by certified physicians in the field, gives a permanent solution to hair loss. It improves not only the patient’s appearance but their self-confidence as well. By contrast, a failed hair transplant exaggerates the problem by only providing a temporary solution, at best. While the initial investment might seem quite low, the long-term effects of having to reinvest and the burden of frustration are far more detrimental to the patient’s overall well-being.
In each of our Seneca centres, hair transplants are performed exclusively by experienced and certified doctors trained at the Seneca Training & Research Centre, and under strict Seneca Quality Standardization Protocols. We believe that each and every hair transplant session worldwide should be performed by a doctor specifically trained and certified in hair restoration, no exceptions. Unfortunately, this standard is not upheld in most clinics and beauty centres, which claim to carry out similar sessions to ours, but with staff that do not have the experience or certification and, in some cases, have no medical background whatsoever. This misleading information is the primary cause for concern now for every potential client. Having seen so many botched results and heard so many horror stories, they aren’t sure who to trust, especially when everyone’s stories sound the same.
During the recent meeting of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) held in Las Vegas, the slogan and main topic were, in fact, this very need for hair transplants to no longer be performed by technicians or specialists, but only by doctors. We were thrilled to hear this, but curious as to why now? Why has it taken so long for this to become a mandatory standard in our industry?
What ISHRS is becoming aware of only now is not news at Seneca- only confirmation. This is a practice we established 15 years ago and have upheld ever since. We were the first medical organization worldwide to acknowledge the necessity for this procedure to be performed only by experienced doctors, specifically trained and certified in hair restoration, and to make this our standard.
Thinning hair can have such an impact on a person, it can cause stress, anxiety and loss of self-esteem, making you feel like you’d do anything to remedy the situation. Making a rash decision on a hair transplant can have diabolical consequences for a number of reasons. Firstly, the result can be unnatural looking, you may have a low follicle survival rate and worse still, so much damage can be done to the donor area that corrective surgery may not be a possibility.
Making the right decision on your hair transplant provider from the beginning is so important – to get a natural-looking result and to protect the donor area from trauma. In this article, we explain the difference between FUT, FUE and the Direct FUE methods and why Direct FUE stand head and shoulders above the industry in terms of process, quality and results.
A hair transplant involves taking healthy hair follicles (from an area resistant to balding) and implanting them into the treatment area. Both the extraction phase and implantation phase are equally important. The key difference between FUT and FUE techniques are how the donor hair follicles are extracted. We explain below:
FUT is one traditional technique where a long thin strip of scalp is removed, typically from lower down on the back of the head. The hair follicles are then divided into single units under a microscope.
The scalp from where the strip was removed is then sewn back together. It is a cheaper form of hair transplant as the extraction phase is quicker than alternative techniques, however, it leaves a significant scar that can be seen under short hair and if you are prone to keloid scarring, it can cause a very noticeable scar where the strip was removed.
FUE is another traditional technique where a punch is used to make a small circular cut in the skin around a hair follicle or group of follicles, removing them from the scalp, and leaving a small open hole.
The process is repeated until the surgeon has enough follicles to cover the treatment area. The holes heal to tiny white scars throughout the donor area and can be undetectable depending on the skill of the surgeon. These scars heal quicker and are less visible than FUT.
The extraction on Direct FUE could be referred to as a micro-FUE as it doesn’t involve cutting into patients skin and only punches with a diameter of 1mm or less are used to extract hairs one by one from the donor area. This minimally invasive extraction is always done 100% by a certified surgeon ensuring consistency and high quality.
With both the FUT and FUE options, follicles are implanted the same way, by creating reception holes in the treatment area and placing the hair follicles into the holes with forceps, allowing little control over the angle, direction and depth. Implantation is normally done by technicians, not by a surgeon. With these traditional techniques, the focus is on how many follicles are extracted and little or no emphasis on follicle survival rate after implantation, which is crucial.
With the Direct FUE Technique, each follicle is separately placed directly in the affected area with the implanter, the specially designed tool for hair transplant and hair loss treatment. With the implanter, doctors can control the depth, direction and angle in, which each graft is placed. Thus, the new hair does not fall, the grafts live longer and the final look is 100% natural. Direct FUE implantation of hair follicles with the implanter provides a natural look.
The Direct FUE hair transplant technique is a tested and standardised method, which takes the best approach in every step of the procedure to ensure maximum patient comfort and 100% natural-looking results. We, at Seneca we are so confident in our technique that we guarantee natural results.
1) Procedures are done by a Seneca Certified Doctor, not technicians
2) Minimum handling of hair follicles results in a high survival rate
3) Patented technique – the most delicate hair transplant method
4) HypothermosolTM
5) Natural results GUARANTEED
When it comes to hair transplants, many people assume that they should base the cost on the number of grafts (hair follicles) to be extracted and implanted. The larger the number of grafts, the better value for money, right? Wrong. Older style hair transplant techniques require more of your precious donor hair follicles to be harvested. Using the correct technique allows for fewer follicles needed to achieve the desired result and caring for the donor area to allow for a future transplant if required is the priority. Too frequently, we have seen patients come to Seneca following a botched procedure with little to no option for a remedial procedure due to the damage inflicted or the “over harvesting” of the donor area.
Cheap hair transplants can have serious consequences for a variety of reasons. You can get a low price per graft but you will probably have a low follicle survival rate, so if you have a survival rate of 25-30%, then you will eventually make a very expensive hair transplant. Seneca is constantly achieving over 95% survival rate against other clinics ranging from 60-75%.
Hair loss – alopecia treatments at Seneca pricing start from £300 and Direct FUE from £2,500. The exact cost depends on the needs and the expectations of the patient.

The production of hair is not continuous but cyclic. The growth phase (Anagen) is succeeded through a transitional phase of regression (Catagen), by the rest phase (Telogen), and the cycle is preserved. During the relatively long Anagen phase (which lasts for 1,000 days, i.e. 2- 5 years), the matrix cells divide, become keratinized and hair is produced. The Catagen phase lasts for about 2-3 weeks and is practically unimportant. During the Telogen phase, which lasts for several months, the cell division stops, hair growth ceases, and the attachment of the hair to the base of the follicle becomes progressively weaker. Finally, as a result of ordinary traction, whether that be from combing, washing, its own weight, or a push by a new, growing hair, the old hair is eventually shed and discarded.
In most mammals, the cycles of follicular activity in each region of the body are synchronized, and waves of growth radiate from one or more centres. In humans, follicular activity has a mosaic pattern (dyssynchronous), with neighbouring follicles being at different stages of the hair growth cycle. At any given moment in time, roughly 90% of the terminal hair is in a growing phase and the other 10% is resting.
On average, 100 hairs are physiologically shed on a daily basis throughout the human scalp, at random. Certain common events can alter this shedding. For example, during pregnancy more follicles are maintained in the growing phase and there is less shedding than usual. After delivery, about 30% of the follicles simultaneously go into the resting phase, causing a temporary, self-correcting, profuse shedding generally about 3 months postpartum. A prolonged febrile episode induces an increase in telogen, with a period of shedding noticeably about 3-12 weeks later.
Finally, the hair cycle is also subject to chronological influences. During the autumn months, daily hair shedding may double, while there is diminished shedding in the spring. Both the duration of hair growth and the daily growth rate are greater in summer than in winter. The study of the hair cycle attitude is attainable today with the microscope.
This laboratory test, the Trichogramma, gives significant information on the diagnosis of hair loss. Consequently, we can summarize that the hair cycle consists of three phases, which have the following characteristics:
Hair loss can occur at any age, and it can be due to a variety of factors – heredity, anxiety, infections or skin disorders, medication, poor diet, etc. Whichever the cause, hair loss is, for both men and women, an unpleasant phenomenon, affecting not only their physical appearance but also their self-confidence.

Why choose Seneca?
The Seneca team has 35 years of experience in the field of hair loss treatment with thousands of people from all over the world have trusted them for this significant change in their lives.
The group are very proud of the brand-new clinic in Athens – the biggest hair loss treatment clinic in Europe. Seneca’s clinics in Scotland (Glasgow and Edinburgh) are just as well equipped. It’s no surprise then, that the group is constantly growing as in 2022 new Seneca clinics are expected to (open/start) in the UK and The Netherlands.
In the clinics, the group use the most modern and innovative treatments, performed exclusively by specialists and under the strictest protocols with the aim of a permanent solution to hair loss. Seneca’s core philosophy is the Total Care System, a comprehensive system for the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss that ensures the most personalised approach to each patient.
Accurate diagnosis is the most important to Seneca. It should be noted that two out of three people treated for hair loss have not received a proper diagnosis beforehand. At Seneca, they provide a unique patient experience to everyone, whether it is about the diagnosis or treatment.
When it comes to hair transplantation, at Seneca they have developed the Direct FUE method, an evolution of the “traditional” FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method. In the traditional FUE technique, the hair follicles are implanted creating hole-force ups in the receiving area and placed with forceps, allowing little control in handling. This leads to a greater injury of the recipient area, and a greater chance of abuse of the hair follicles but also to a rather abnormal result.
In contrast, with the Direct FUE, each hair follicle is placed separately and directly on the affected area with the Implanter, a specially designed tool that allows the doctor to control the depth, direction and angle of placement of each implant. This ensures a 100% dense, natural, aesthetically pleasing and permanent result without creating holes or cracks. Therefore, anyone who is worried about hair loss, should talk to Seneca Medical Group and arrange an appointment at one of the clinics below.

“How many grafts do I need?” is just one of the many questions we get asked in hair restoration consultations. Most people do their research before they come into the clinic and already have an idea about how many grafts they “need” to achieve a good hair transplant, with a “good” hair transplant meaning a dense and natural-looking result.
We’ll explain why trying to calculate the number of grafts you will need from the information you find online can be deceiving and the science behind calculating the number of grafts that you actually need.
The first step to finding out the correct number of grafts that you, as an individual, will need for a hair transplant with the correct density and 100% natural results, is to have a diagnosis appointment with a hair loss expert. During your diagnosis appointment, your scalp and hair will be assessed. Those with thicker hair may require fewer grafts to achieve the desired result. The extent of your hair loss will be measured, your medical history will be considered and a proper diagnosis for your hair loss will be made. To classify the extent of hair loss, the Norwood Scale (image below) is used.
With all of this information, a correct calculation for the number of grafts needed to achieve your desired result will be done. BUT, this number will be different for every clinic you visit. WHY? Because survival rates vary greatly between clinics and those with poor survival rates will increase the number of grafts needed to make up for it. Would you want to pay for 5000+ grafts when 10-50% of them don’t survive?
Seneca Total Care is an integrated system for the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss, which provides every patient with an effective and accurate solution based on each needs. Seneca’s state-of-the-art diagnostic systems and our team of specialists prepare and present a fully personalized treatment. In the final stage of diagnosis, the members of the scientific team of Seneca Medical Group study and approve each treatment plan separately and the patient enjoys a fully scientific and personalized experience.
SENECA Direct FUE hair transplant system uses healthy hair follicles, which are implanted one by one directly into the thinning area. We only choose and transplant healthy hair follicles from the donor area of the head or other parts of the body, which are genetically designed to grow for a lifetime. The entire procedure is performed only by doctors trained and certified by Seneca Training & Research Centre, and under strict Seneca Quality Standardization Protocols, to ensure great results every time.
With a special tool, the Implanter, we can control completely the direction, depth, and angle of placement of each hair follicle. After that, the hair follicles follow their normal course of life and grow naturally.
The transplanted hairs continue to grow for a lifetime and do not fall out, resulting in an absolutely natural result.
A hair transplant is a specialized medical procedure which requires the skill and expertise of a physician trained and certified in hair restoration. This is the only way to guarantee the patient’s safety and the outcome of the procedure.
Countless patients find their way to us in search of repair for the botched results they’ve received by entrusting the procedure to other clinics, that do not abide by these standards. A recent example comes from a patient who had not one, but two failed transplants in Europe and Turkey before discovering Seneca.
The description of his time at an Istanbul clinic is a patient’s worst nightmare.
“I previously had an implantation of synthetic hair done in Europe and was ashamed of the results. I made the decision to travel to Turkey to try and fix the damage. What I lived there, I will never forget. Before I made the arrangements, I had been assured that the hair transplant was performed only by doctors. I realized quickly upon arrival that nothing could be further from the truth though. I felt a sense of panic and dread in the pit of my stomach. I asked the nurses several times if the doctor could please see me himself, but this request was repeatedly ignored. It didn’t take long to realize that whoever was performing the transplant had no idea what was going on with my head. It felt like he was improvising as he went along. I started screaming—I couldn’t help it. This seemed to be the only thing that got the nurses to pay attention to me. They finally yelled for the doctor to come quickly. When he arrived, he approached me, pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and offered me one to help me relax. I couldn’t believe this was happening! There was no doubt this was an amateur I was dealing with and I had been completely misled. I just wanted it to be over and get out of there before my health was compromised any further. I am yet another victim of an unprofessional hair transplant which ended in tragedy in Turkey. ”
The Seneca Medical Group held a two-day repair and rehabilitation session for this unlucky patient to fix the tragic results of his synthetic hair implantation. He was immensely relieved to find himself in the hands of experts, finally, and was thoroughly satisfied with his experience and the journey to Athens.

Media worldwide are praising the Greek government for its handling of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, as it remains among the few countries in the world with low infection and death rates.
Greece reported a total of 182 Covid-19-related deaths and 3.049 confirmed cases of infection last night.
Greece was among the countries to immediately impose restrictive measures including shutting down schools, cancelling public events and closing down spaces, enforcing social distancing and imposing a strict stay-at-home order.
Reports add that Greece has also contained the spread of the virus significantly compared to European countries such as Belgium, Portugal and the Netherlands.
Greece is on the list of eight countries where one can enjoy their summer holidays this year without the fear of the coronavirus, as the German newspaper Bild reports.
“The first country I’ll visit after coronavirus? There’s no contest” The Telegraph’s digital travel editor, Oliver Smith, intends to visit when the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis ends. In his article, Smith refers to Greece’s beauties and special features as Greece aims to welcome tourists in July.
“To manage the Covid-19 crisis, look to Greece” The Guardian, “Greece has been a coronavirus success.” Washington Post, ‘’Greece Shows How to Handle the Crisis” Bloomberg and many other media praise Greece’s quick actions to impose lockdowns.
Described as a “noticeable – and perhaps surprising – exception” and given Greece’s swift response to the coronavirus outbreak, “the country might be able to get back on its feet sooner than others”, the Bloomberg report concludes.
Travellers from 29 countries will be eligible to travel to Greece for non-essential purposes from June 15, after Hellenic authorities decided to open the borders for several EU and non-EU countries in which the rate of infections has decreased.
One more recognition for Seneca Thessaloniki as it has been awarded the Business Excellence Award in the world, THE BIZZ, for being a company leader that has consistently demonstrated business excellence in the Hair Restoration field.
BIZZ gathers and recognizes leading businesses from different regions that contribute to the daily growth of their local economy and the world economy.
