We are proud to announce that DHI Scotland is becoming SENECA.
x

The first concerned the diffusion of innovation and medical achievements of the outstanding surgeons active in the group’s clinics. And the second, the rapid rise of medical tourism and the possibilities it entails for our country.

The speeches and workshops of the first day of the conference were held at the “home” of Seneca Medical Group in Athens. At the group’s state-of-the-art clinic in the Athens Tower, on Friday June 14, the group’s work was holistically presented and the good practices that have contributed to its success were disseminated. A success that is confirmed not only by the many awards and the rapid growth of the group, but also by the fact that SENECA is the only purely Greek company in the field of hair transplantation which has a presence abroad with its own and partner clinics.

Pioneering interventions in live broadcast, speeches by leading scientists and specialized professionals from Greece and Scotland composed a very exciting scene. Doctors from all over the world have benefited from the long-term experience as well as the innovative methods of Seneca’s potential, receiving the information directly from the source and in the most direct way. The three demanding incidents that took place on Friday deserve special mention. Conference participants had the opportunity to witness live hair transplantation in a transgender case, hair transplantation in an afrotype case and finally beard transplantation.

“All three of these cases require great experience and expertise, characteristics that distinguish all Seneca doctors” noted George Gounnaris, Scientific Head of Clinics of the SENECA Medical Group, who particularly emphasized the importance of correct diagnosis, medical training and of the support Seneca patients receive throughout their healing journey. “We ensure the very good results that testify that we are pioneers by constantly incorporating innovative techniques and taking into account the latest scientific developments in the field of hair transplantation. The most important factor of all is the fact that, in all our clinics, transplants are carried out exclusively by specialized doctors and are supported by nurses trained and certified by us. The colleagues who work in our clinics are those recommended by the Medical Association: either dermatologists or plastic surgeons specialized in dealing with scalp problems.”

“We keep the quality in all our clinics the same, thanks to protocols that are followed reverently, and procedures that are strictly applied. In this way, we achieve excellent results in every operation, while at the same time we are able to provide completely personalized treatments without ever compromising on quality” emphasized Mr. Giorgos Kottaridis, CEO of Seneca Medical Group. Challenge and conquest of enormous proportions, since Seneca has already expanded with new partnerships in France and Israel, while the medical facilities operating in Athens, Thessaloniki, Kalamata, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Copenhagen, Bucharest and Dublin are very sophisticated and modern.

The medical services as well as the scientific staff of our country with their high level, are competitive advantages for the development of health and wellness tourism – and Seneca Medical Group is well aware of this. In recent years, the Group has focused on the field of medical tourism, achieving impressive results (40% of the patients who choose Seneca come from abroad, while the target for the coming years is to increase the percentage to 60%). Greece as a rising force in medical tourism, the challenges but also the resulting opportunities for further development of the Greek economy therefore reasonably occupied the delegates of the scientific conference of the Seneca Medical Group, as its example is typical of the rising trend of travel with the aim of well-being , but also indicative of the good timing for the creation of similar initiatives in the Greek ecosystem.

Mrs. Sophia Zacharakis, Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Mr. George Patoulis, President of the Hellenic Health Tourism Council (ELITOUR) and the Athens Medical Association, Mr. George Markopoulos, President of of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Attica and Mrs. Androniki Kalfa, Marketing Manager of Marketing Greece.

The second day of the conference found the participants at the Wyndham Grand Athens hotel, where on Saturday, June 15, the marketing options that have ensured Seneca Medical Group the ability to transform lives and restore the confidence of more and more people were presented and discussed. Creative campaigns that resonated with the public, communication channels and forums that promote dialogue and the dissemination of information gave the audience the opportunity to understand the multi-layered communication network in which Seneca Medical Group operates, but also to appreciate the importance of creativity and the strong partnerships to ensure its continuous upward trajectory.

Emphasis was placed on the part of the personalized experience, as well as on the points that are the “key” for effective communication and the creation of a relationship of trust with the patient. “When we started Seneca Medical Group we had one goal: To create something different” stated Ms. Chrysa Giannakakou, Head Of International Sales & Customer Care of Seneca. “This is none other than the unique patient experience, which means that we are with the patient from the first moment of contact, we stand by him at every step of the treatment journey – but also after it. Diversity characterizes Seneca’s customer community and for us it is important to establish a relationship of trust within a safe environment. For us, all our patients are equal.”

Yet, when it comes to hair transplants, there is no need to risk travelling to an unknown clinic as one of the best and most reputable centres in Europe for the treatment of hair loss is well established in Scotland.

The award-winning Seneca Medical Group is considered to be the number one hair transplant company in Europe due to its elite hair restoration services and innovative techniques.

Through extensive research, accurate diagnosis, comprehensive training and cutting-edge treatments, the company remains at the forefront of innovation in the field of hair restoration and is dedicated to constantly developing new techniques and tools to address the challenges of hair loss.

Seneca Medical Group has 35 years of experience in treating hair loss and to date has treated over 43,000 hair loss patients and trained and certified more than 160 doctors and nurses in hair restoration treatments and procedures.

The company’s diagnostic centres in Edinburgh and Aberdeen and clinic in Glasgow are home to some of the most well-equipped clinics and diagnostic centres for hair loss treatments and hair transplantations in Europe.

Seneca Scotland’s multi-awarded team offer personalised treatment for each client through their Total Care system of diagnosis and treatment that allows each patient to receive the most appropriate transplant according to their needs.

The group offers a free diagnosis through the Total Care system to evaluate the problem, identify the causes and formulate a personalised treatment plan.

Thanks to the trained and certified staff and the most advanced systems available at the Seneca clinics in Scotland, patients have at their disposal at every stage of treatment, the most appropriate and personalised care.

Hair transplants are now widely available but techniques vary, which is why it is worth opting for the Direct FUE Hair Transplant Surgery offered by the Seneca Medical Group.

This is an advanced medical procedure for effectively addressing hair loss. With hair transplant results that are expected to last a lifetime, it offers a natural appearance that helps to instil confidence in those who choose it.

Unlike other techniques, the Direct FUE Hair Transplant is a minimally invasive procedure that does not involve graft processing or the creation of reception holes prior to graft placement.

Instead, it utilises a specialised implanter device to ensure precise control over the direction, depth, and angle of each graft, resulting in a 100% natural outcome.

This technique effectively addresses permanent hair loss caused by factors like androgenetic alopecia and offers a more natural and dense look. It also causes less trauma to the scalp, leading to faster recovery times, which makes it arguably a superior choice for many patients.

Seneca treatment is then carried out in two stages. In the first, the hair follicles are checked, selected and then painlessly extracted. They are taken from the back of the patient’s head and kept in appropriate conditions and temperature until their gradual replanting with Seneca Implanter begins in the second and final stage.

The special solution that the follicles are kept in before implantation enhances their growth. Seneca does not split nor cut the grafts as minimum handling achieves the maximum growth rate.

Seneca’s highly trained staff can achieve the implantation of around 9,000 hairs per session and it is a procedure that can be done in a few hours and without hassle.

The advantages include the specially-designed and patented tools and equipment through which the doctor directly implants the hair follicles giving a 100% natural result and high density. It is considered to be the most effective method of treating hair loss with its effects expected to last lifelong.

Awards won by Seneca include International Business Excellence Award 2018, the Best Hair Clinic Award 2018, the International Hair Clinic of the year at the IMTJ 2018, the 2018-2019-2020-2021 Patient Service Award from WhatClinic.com, the Hair loss Clinic of the Year 2018 at the Scottish Beauty Industry Awards, the Business Excellence Award from Bizz Awards 2018, the European Business Award in 2019, the Eagles of Health Award 2021, the Healthcare Business Award 2022 and the Scotland Trichology Clinic of the Year & Hair Transplant Clinic of the Year 2022/23 and the Aesthetic Excellence Awards 2023.

So, if you are worried about hair loss, do not hesitate. Contact the Seneca team and book an appointment at one of the clinics in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

FACED with receding hairlines, international rugby player Tim Visser and professional boxer Paddy Reilly had no hesitation in opting for a hair transplant.

After researching various treatments and practitioners, both chose to be treated at Seneca Medical Group’s Glasgow clinic and would recommend the company’s state-of-the-art, pain-free treatment.

Visser in fact found it so relaxing he fell asleep during the procedure!

“Actually, it was a very wonderful experience and I fell asleep when they took the hairs out of the donor area,” said Tim who played for Scotland. “It’s very comfortable and the doctors are very reassuring. I was watching them do it, but I couldn’t feel a thing. It was remarkably easy.”

Although he wasn’t particularly self-conscious about his receding hairline, Tim had no hesitation about undergoing a hair transplant.

“I think it is very normal nowadays for men to get it done,” he said. “When I realised, I could make my hair better, then why would I not?”

Another delighted Seneca patient’s before and after pictures

After researching the clinics offering treatments, he concluded that Seneca was “one of the best out there” – a conclusion that was confirmed by his treatment.

“I quickly realised how professional a set-up it is,” said Tim. “My consultation in Melville Street in Edinburgh was fantastic. It’s a great location, a beautiful building and the staff are very professional. I was made very welcome on arrival and the consultant explained what would happen and the best approach for my hair.

“We decided there and then about what exactly we would do. It was all very smooth and very customer focused, which was good to see, and the aftercare was excellent.”

Professional boxer Paddy Reilly trains hard and looks after his appearance but was becoming self-conscious about his receding hairline.

However, while he wanted to address the problem, he was initially apprehensive about having a hair transplant – only to find it was like “going to your pal’s house”.

“When I came in at the start, I was quite worried about being in discomfort and pain, but I couldn’t feel anything at all,” he said. “I didn’t even feel the anaesthetic jags as they were just a small prick to the skin. I was really surprised and over the moon with what’s happened and the detail in the hairline. It was exactly what I was looking for and I am happy with the outcome. The guys are brilliant.”

Before the treatment Paddy said his hair had started receding quite badly and he realised this could only grow worse as he grew older.

“I look after myself and I am always in the gym, but I was a wee bit self-conscious about my hairline and I just wanted to get it filled in a bit,” he said.

“I was nervous, but it is just like going into your pal’s house as they are very friendly, they offer you drinks and there’s a relaxed atmosphere. Everybody is so professional and down-to-earth, and they make you feel at home. I trust them and recommend it to anybody that needs work done.  The aftercare is fantastic too.”

Paddy and Tim are just two of the many thousands of people Seneca Medical Group has treated for hair loss. With a track record of over 35 years of experience, Seneca has provided effective treatment to more than 43,000 people suffering from hair loss, while also training and certifying more than 160 doctors and nurses in hair restoration procedures.

Considered the number one hair transplant clinic in Europe, Seneca has won many awards and uses the Direct FUE Hair Transplant technique, an advanced medical procedure for effectively addressing hair loss. While some can accept the loss of the hair on their head, others find it extremely difficult – but they may not be aware there is a safe solution that has already been used by thousands of satisfied people.

Once regarded as the sole preserve of celebrities like Gordon Ramsey, Wayne Rooney and Lewis Hamilton, hair transplants are now widely available but techniques vary, which is why it is worth opting for Direct FUE Hair Transplant Surgery

Their success is rooted in their original vision, mission, and values, which have garnered Seneca a prestigious international reputation. It has clinics all over Europe, including Glasgow and has diagnostic centres in Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

Seneca’s Glasgow branch is a fully equipped clinic that practises all the steps of high-quality service that the group is known for: thorough consultation and diagnosis, completely personalised treatment plans, a highly skilled procedure and comprehensive aftercare. Eyebrow and beard transplants are also available here.

The procedures are carried out exclusively by doctors and so far the clinics have provided effective treatment to over 43,000 individuals suffering from hair loss, while also training and certifying more than 160 doctors and nurses in hair restoration procedures.

Discover the Ideal Solutions for Hair Loss:

Dealing with hair loss can be quite a journey, leaving many of us on the lookout for that perfect solution to address this common concern. The thing is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to getting your hair back to its prime. The right treatment varies depending on your individual needs and catching the issue early on.

Finding the Right Hair Loss Treatment: Your Journey to Restoring Your Hair

Getting to the Root: Underlying Causes

Understanding the reason for your hair loss is key to figuring out the best approach. Sometimes, hair loss isn’t the main issue—it’s often a symptom of other health problems. Taking care of these root causes not only slows down hair loss but can actually encourage those strands to regrow.

For instance, if you’re dealing with ongoing thyroid problems, fungal infections, or an inflamed scalp, these could be the culprits. Tailored medications could lend a hand in hair re-growth.

Navigating Hair Loss Treatments

When it comes to picking out the right treatment for your hair loss, it’s best to speak to a specialist who can help you understand the cause, and recommend the best solution for you.

Let’s explore some of the most common pharmaceutical and invasive treatments available:

1. Minoxidil and Finasteride:

These tried-and-true medications—Minoxidil and Finasteride—have been in the game for a while, taking on hair loss. Minoxidil helps blood flow to your scalp, giving your hair follicles more time in their growth phase, and ultimately cutting down on hair loss. Finasteride works by keeping testosterone from morphing into DHT, effectively slowing down hair loss and even encouraging new growth.

2. Dutasteride:

Similar to Finasteride, Dutasteride offers an alternative route to tackling hair loss. Its mechanism of action is similar to Finasteride, showing promise in treating and preventing hair loss.

3. Stem Cell Therapy:

Stem cells, with their tissue-healing and growth properties, offer an innovative approach. These multipotent cells can be isolated and used to activate hair follicle regeneration, aiding regrowth.

4. Hair Mesotherapy (PRP):

PRP is where your own blood’s platelets team up with growth factors to bring your hair back to life. It’s an injectable treatment that can slow down hair loss and give your hair a boost in density.

5. Hair Transplant:

If we’re talking about top-tier solutions, especially for Androgenetic Alopecia, hair transplantation is the winner. Modern techniques like Direct FUE make it way less intimidating since it’s done under local anaesthesia. Follicles are borrowed from your hair’s sturdy growth zones and then strategically placed where you need them most.

Finding Your Perfect Fit

Finding the perfect hair loss treatment isn’t just a science—it’s a journey that you begin by speaking to the experts. Remember, what worked for someone else, might not do the same for you. At Seneca Clinics, we offer advanced and effective treatments for long-lasting results, prioritising your comfort and natural appearance.  We make sure it’s comfortable, with invisible scars and with minimum downtime.

What is the Impact of Diet on Hair Health?

When it comes to having thick and healthy hair, it’s not just about the products you use. Your diet plays a big role in how healthy and vibrant your hair looks. In this blog post, we’ll explore how what you eat can make a real difference for your hair. We’ll also talk about the important vitamins and minerals your hair loves and share some simple diet tips to keep your locks in top shape.

Vitamins and hair loss

The Link Between Diet and Hair Loss

Getting and keeping thick, healthy hair isn’t always easy. Your hair follicles need the right mix of vitamins, proteins, and other good stuff to stay happy. And where do they get these things? Yep, you guessed it – from the food you eat. Making poor food choices, going on extreme diets, not getting enough of the right vitamins, or going overboard on certain nutrients can all lead to unexpected hair loss.

So, let’s break it down in a way that’s easy to understand:

Vitamin D: The Sunshine Vitamin

Vitamin D is like a sunny boost for your hair. You can get it from foods like meat, dairy, fish, fruit juices, and mushrooms. Having these foods in your diet can help your hair grow strong. On the flip side, not getting enough vitamin D has been linked to hair loss issues.

B Vitamins: Biotin and Cobalamin

B vitamins, like B7 (also known as biotin) and B12 (cobalamin), are like hair superheroes. You can find them in things like whole grains, veggies, meat, fish, eggs, beans, and nuts.

Vitamin E: Hair’s Best Friend

Vitamin E is another great vitamin for your hair. You can get it from foods like rice, spinach, fish, and almonds.

Vitamin C: The Hair Helper

Vitamin C is great for keeping your hair healthy. You can find it in green leafy veggies, citrus fruits, and more.

Iron: The Blood Booster

Iron is super important because it helps make blood cells and gets oxygen to your hair. When you don’t have enough iron (called anaemia), your body cuts back on blood flow to less important areas like hair and nails. This makes your hair weak and can lead to hair loss. Foods rich in iron include shellfish, red meat, spinach, beans, and even dark chocolate.

Zinc: Essential for Hair Health

Zinc plays a crucial role in maintaining the well-being of your hair, thanks to its powerful antioxidant properties. You can find zinc in various foods, both from animal sources such as red meat, fish, and eggs, and plant sources like beans and cereals. A lack of Zinc can be associated with various disorders, including anorexia, inflammatory bowel diseases, and kidney disease, which can negatively impact your hair health. Studies have also indicated that zinc supplements can contribute to healthy hair growth.

A Word of Caution on Supplements

While supplements can be helpful, it’s important not to overdo it. Taking too much of certain vitamins (like vitamin A or E) and minerals (like selenium) can mess up your hair instead of helping it. It’s always a good idea to talk to a doctor before taking any supplements.

Weight Loss and Hair Loss

If you’re trying to shed some pounds, it’s essential to do it in a healthy way. Sudden and drastic weight loss can reduce your body’s energy levels, which can lead to more hair falling out. So, if you’re on a diet, make sure it’s a balanced one that keeps your body happy.

What to Eat for Healthy Hair

To keep your hair in good shape, make sure to include foods like eggs, berries, spinach, fish, sweet potatoes, avocados, peppers, nuts, beans, and meat in your diet. These foods give your hair the protein and vitamins it needs to stay strong and beautiful.

When to Seek Professional Help

If you’re still worried about hair loss despite eating well, you might want to consider getting advice from experts, like the doctors at Seneca. They offer advanced treatments for permanent hair loss solutions, like the Direct FUE hair transplantation method. It’s a natural-looking result with minimal recovery time, and it’s done by certified doctors who follow strict quality standards.

Minoxidil & Finasteride: Effective Pharmaceutical Solutions for Hair Loss.

Are you tired of dealing with hair loss? You’re not alone. Millions of people worldwide struggle with this common problem known as androgenetic alopecia. Both men and women are affected by the gradual thinning of hair on the scalp, which is caused by a combination of genetic and hormonal factors.

Luckily, modern medicine offers solutions to combat hair loss, and two of the most popular treatments are minoxidil and finasteride. Let’s take a closer look at these pharmaceutical options and how they work.

What is finasteride? What is minoxidil?

Minoxidil, a fascinating substance, promotes hair growth by widening the blood vessels in the scalp. This process increases blood flow, delivering essential oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles. The result? Stimulated hair growth and a delay in hair loss. Minoxidil comes in the form of a lotion or foam, with 2% and 5% solutions available.

Finasteride, on the other hand, falls under the category of 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. It works by preventing the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the active form of testosterone in our bodies. By reducing DHT levels, finasteride effectively slows down hair loss and may even stimulate regrowth. It is taken as a daily 1mg pill.

Now, the burning question: Do these treatments actually work?

minoxidil and finasteride effective solutions to treat hair loss

The answer is a resounding yes! Minoxidil has been a trusted hair loss treatment for years, proving its effectiveness in promoting hair growth and slowing down hair loss. Finasteride is another reliable option, approved by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia.

But what about gender differences? Can both men and women benefit from these treatments?

Absolutely! Minoxidil is widely used topically by both men and women to address various forms of alopecia. However, finasteride is not recommended for women of reproductive age. While ongoing studies are exploring its safe use in women with hair loss, no definitive conclusions have been drawn yet.

The timing of these treatments is crucial. It is recommended to start using minoxidil or finasteride at the first signs of hair loss. The sooner you begin, the better chance you have of saving and strengthening your existing hair.

Does minoxidil or finasteride have any side effects?

Now, let’s talk about the side effects. It’s important to note that while minoxidil is generally well-tolerated, it is still a medication and can have some potential side effects. The most common side effect is scalp irritation, which may manifest as redness, itching, or flaking. In rare cases, more serious side effects like low blood pressure, a rapid heartbeat, or chest pain can occur if the medication is absorbed into the bloodstream. This typically happens if the drug is applied to broken skin or used excessively.

As for finasteride, common side effects include decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders. However, these side effects are usually mild and temporary, resolving once the medication is discontinued. Severe side effects are extremely rare.

So, should you consider these treatments?

Minoxidil and finasteride are safe and effective options for combating hair loss. Just keep in mind that finasteride should only be prescribed and administered by qualified physicians.

Now, let’s address a common concern: What if your hair loss has advanced significantly? In such cases, minoxidil and finasteride may not be enough to create new follicles and cover the affected area. That’s where hair transplantation comes into play. At Seneca Medical Group, we specialise in modern and personalised hair loss treatments for both men and women.

hair loss and stress

Hair loss can stem from various factors, including trauma, infections, skin conditions, autoimmune diseases, and genetics. However, stress plays a significant role in the most common form of hair loss, known as androgenetic alopecia, which affects both men and women. In this article, we’ll delve into the link between stress and hair loss, highlighting stress’s impact on our well-being and exploring its psychological implications.

The Connection Between Stress and Hair Loss

Stress, often seen as an eternal nemesis, affects us physically and psychologically. It serves as a catalyst for numerous health issues, including hair loss. Interestingly, stress intensifies the condition and contributes to thinning, creating a direct association between our stress levels and the health of our hair.

Understanding the Hair Growth Cycle

To comprehend how stress impacts hair loss, it’s essential to understand the natural cycle of the scalp [1], which is made up of three stages:

1. Growth Stage (Anagen): Lasting from 2 to 6 years, this phase sees the hair lengthening and thriving.

2. Transition Stage (Catagen): A brief 1 to 2-week period where the hair follicles shrink, preparing for shedding.

3. Resting Stage (Telogen): Taking place over 5 to 6 weeks, this stage involves hair falling out naturally.

The Vicious Cycle of Stress and Hair Loss

During times of heightened stress, a significant portion of our hair tends to enter the resting stage, resulting in hair loss and widespread thinning. This sets off a vicious cycle where stress triggers hair loss, which, in turn, adds to the stress and can worsen the condition.

Identifying Stress-Related Hair Loss

Stress-induced hair loss often presents itself through noticeable clinical features. Alopecia areata serves as a prime example, representing an autoimmune disorder that affects hair follicles and causes hair loss. It initially manifests as circular patches of severe hair loss, commonly found on the head but occasionally affecting other areas such as eyebrows. Patients with this condition may experience episodes of significant hair loss followed by periods of regrowth.

Treating Stress-Related Hair Loss

Various solutions and treatments have been developed to address hair loss caused by stress. Popular options include hair transplantation, non-invasive approaches like autologous PRP mesotherapy, specialised shampoos, dietary supplements [1], and medications such as Minoxidil lotion or Finasteride pills. At Seneca Medical Group, we are dedicated to assisting patients in combatting scalp thinning and regaining their self-confidence.

Discover Effective Hair Loss Treatments

If you’re experiencing early-stage hair loss or seeking ways to delay further thining, autologous PRP hair mesotherapy could be the answer for you. Seneca clinics provide this treatment that strengthens the scalp. For comprehensive and lasting hair loss solutions, we offer Direct FUE hair transplantation [1] – a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anaesthesia. Our certified physicians, trained by the esteemed Seneca Training Academy, adhere to rigorous quality standards to ensure natural-looking results, minimal discomfort, no scarring, and swift recovery.

In collaboration with the Greek burn and burn victims’ organization Salvia, Seneca’s medical team offers people who have suffered such a traumatic experience the opportunity to regain their self-confidence.

Together, Seneca and Salvia gave the patient free scalp rehabilitation. The patient had an accident in her early days, resulting in hair loss on her right temple. She had been searching for years for hair restoration solutions, which were costly, time-consuming, and with a low success rate. Seneca’s medical team took on this case and proceeded with placing hair follicles on the burned surface of the patient’s scalp using the Direct FUE method.

Seneca’s Direct FUE hair transplantation method is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anaesthesia and therefore is practically painless. The procedure is performed only by physicians certified by SENECA’s Training & Research Centre, who adhere to Seneca Medical Group’s strict quality protocols.

Seneca Hair Restoration

Hair loss or thinning is an issue that can affect people of any age and can be attributed to a range of factors. For both women and men, it can be a source of low self-esteem. Finding a solution can be a challenging and daunting process. When selecting a hair transplant clinic, it is essential to take into account all factors that can affect the success of the surgery.

Androgenic Alopecia: what is it and how it can be treated

Androgenic Alopecia (AGA) is a condition that is prevalent among transgender women MtF and transgender men FtM and requires special treatment. Transgender individuals have a gender identity that differs from their sex assigned at birth, which can induce gender dysphoria – an uneasiness due to the discrepancy between the two.

Hormone replacement therapy, with or without sex reassignment surgery, is often part of gender transitioning and can bring relief for gender dysphoria. In trans women, feminising hormones may help stabilise hair loss if taken at an early age before the onset of androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Nonetheless, hair transplant experts are seeing an increasing amount of trans women who find the effects of AGA particularly upsetting due to the masculine appearance of the receding hairline.

Hair transplant specialists should be cognisant of how gender-affirming hormones influence AGA and address the hair loss worries of each patient uniquely.

Transgender and non-binary hair transplantation requires the same surgical methodology and technology as cisgender hair restoration but needs a greater level of precision, artistry, and skill to attain the desired outcome. For transgender women (MtF), a special approach is necessary when it comes to hairline design, with a feminine, softer, and more rounded hairline usually desired. Conversely, transgender men (FtM) may prefer a more masculine, M-shaped hairline. In addition, transgender men have the option of creating moustaches, beards, and sideburns to attain a more masculine look.

Seneca’s Medical Personnel Expertise in Hair Loss Diagnosis and Treatment

At Seneca Medical Group, we specialise in complex and meticulous hair transplantations for transgender individuals. Seneca’s personnel are experienced in the intricate process of achieving hair transplant results that accurately reflect each patient’s gender identity.

We are proud to introduce the Direct FUE technique, wherein a specialised implanter pen is used to re-implant hair into the scalp. Our highly skilled surgeons employ this technique to ensure high-quality results that mimic the natural direction, angulation, density, and flow of hair.

We also recommend non-surgical treatments such as minoxidil, finasteride, mesotherapy, PRP, supplements, and other hair products as potential solutions to achieve the desired results.

It is essential to emphasise that anyone suffering from hair loss should be properly diagnosed by a hair specialist, to rule out any other potential pathological causes such as autoimmune dermatological diseases, deficiencies, drug-induced Alopecia, and other similar conditions that may resemble AGA.

Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs is warning about the risks of going to Turkey for cosmetic and weight-loss procedures, after a number of recent deaths of Irish medical tourists.

Irish people have been warned about the risks of going to Turkey for cosmetic and weight-loss procedures after a number of deaths due to complications. It comes following a recent death of an Irish woman who travelled to Turkey for a medical procedure. At least three Irish people are reported to have died in Turkey after travelling for a procedure in the last year.

The department said some Irish citizens have experienced complications after treatments in Turkey, and advised travellers to discuss their plans carefully with their own specialists before committing to any procedure overseas.

St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin has said it has treated an increasing number of people over the last two years who have travelled abroad for surgery and come back unwell. This includes a number of emergency presentations due to bariatric surgery that was performed abroad.

On its website, the Department of Foreign Affairs reminds citizens who may be considering medical tourism that that all surgery contains an element of risk, stating “Individuals should seek to inform themselves of both the risks and benefits of any procedures, and are advised to discuss their plans carefully with their own doctor, dentist and/or hospital specialist before committing to any procedure abroad. Individuals should also familiarise themselves with any follow-up treatment or process that may be required, and be aware that they may encounter communication difficulties in a non-English speaking environment.”

Concerns are now growing about the rising rate of complications due to the “conveyor belt” system being adopted by some hospitals and clinics. Patients have reported being operated on at 10pm at night and seeing “trolley loads” of people waiting to undergo cosmetic and weight-loss procedures. Certain hospitals have been discharging patients to hotels for their aftercare, which Irish medics have described as extremely worrying due to hygiene and safety concerns.

Turkey has become an increasingly popular destination for Irish people seeking to have dental, cosmetic and bariatric procedures. High costs, waiting lists of up to five years and the lack of availability of certain procedures in Ireland is leading people abroad.

Some weight-loss clinics in Turkey are asking Irish influencers to promote medical procedures on their social media pages. Clinics have been messaging female influencers with large followings on Instagram about collaborating to promote bariatric surgery.

Under a set of legislative frameworks, health tourism and medical services are stringently regulated in Turkey, starting with the main law text, the Law on the Method of Execution of Medicine and Medical Sciences No. 1219 and the Law on Health Care Services No. 3359. As per this new framework, the entities, institutions, and individual empowered to offer patient care and healthcare services are closely managed and are mainly subject to licenses approved by Turkey’s Health Ministry.

While Turkey has brought in several new regulations to improve quality, as yet there is little sign of the state being able to really enforce the rules or stamp out the worst excesses.

Greece meets all the requirements to be classified as a Wellness country, and international observers and experts agree on this. The 1st Hybrid Global Wellness Economy Forum “From Opportunity to a Successful Development – The Greek Case” took part at the Ministry of Digital Governance on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, where leading international experts and global opinion leaders in the field of Health and Wellness Tourism participated. The event was held with the contribution of Elitour and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development under the auspices of Enterprise Greece and highlighted the unique investment opportunities in Greece for the development of hospitality structures that will offer health and wellness services.

Seneca Medical Group, a pioneer in the field of hair loss restoration, invests in the extroversion and development of Health Tourism and supports such initiatives. Seneca Medical Group’s clinics provide advanced hair transplant services and promote the development of Medical Tourism in Greece. Peggy Stavrianou, Director of Operations, and Nikos Pagopoulos, Medical Tourism Manager of Seneca attended a very successful forum where distinguished speakers from the field of medical tourism and wellness developed their ideas and suggestions. The international speakers agreed on the emergence of the “authenticity” of the concept of Wellbeing as a long tradition in Greece, in combination with the Mediterranean diet and the historical wealth of the country that gave birth to Medical Science, regarding the development of an extroversion strategy to attract wellness travelers. Susie Ellis, President of the Global Wellness Institute, agreed with the President of ELITOUR, Mr. Patoulis, on the identity of the “authenticity” of Greek Wellness, in which the development of Greek Wellness Tourism can invest. And he suggested that Greece be included in the Global Geography of Wellness.

The speakers underlined the importance of public-private partnerships which have helped so far to rebrand the country into a premium, safe, multi-island destination. Combined with wellness and health offerings, Greece can benefit from the thriving tourism segment which she said was growing at a rate of 20-30 percent annually.

The international community would vote for Greece as a destination catering to travelers’ well-being but also as a separate health destination. Greece, can evolve into the global center of holistic healing and rejuvenation, a global center of authentic well-being.

The introduction of innovative hair transplants in Scotland is closely associated with the acclaimed Seneca Medical Group. The clinic’s team of highly qualified doctors provides patients with hair transplant services using cutting-edge technology.

Dr. Hala Elgmati, Seneca’s Medical Director, is a hair transplant surgeon with over 8 years of experience. Dr. Hala Elgmati won the 2018 whatclinic award for excellence in patient communication, and she will answer some of our questions about hair loss.

What is causing my hair to fall out? Hair loss causes

We lose hair all the time and don’t even realize it. Hair loss is natural. We can lose up to 100 hairs per day without thinning. Hair follicles go through growth (Anagen), regression (Catagen), resting or shedding (Telogen), and evacuation cycles (Exogen). This is followed by the development of a new hair, and the cycle continues. As a result, there is no continuous growth of hair.

Hair loss, like male and female pattern baldness, can be permanent. This type of hair loss often runs in families. Only a few genes have been identified as markers for this type of hair loss.
Other types of boldness have been linked to scalp diseases like Alopecia areata and other skin autoimmune conditions.

Other types of hair loss are likely to be temporary. An illness, stress, cancer treatment, weight loss, or iron deficiency can all cause them.

What are the best ways to stop hair loss?

That’s a difficult question to answer! This is ultimately determined by the cause and stage of hair loss. Most cases of temporary hair loss improve once the underlying cause is addressed. In these cases, Minoxidil and PRP can be used to stimulate hair regrowth.

Once established, androgenic alopecia is permanent, and the only way to regain hair is through hair transplantation. However, it is critical to use retention treatment to slow or even stop thinning in unplanted areas for as long as possible. Minoxidil, finasteride, and Autologous Hair Mesotherapy have all been shown to be effective.

Hair transplantation produces permanent results in the treated areas, but additional hair loss outside of these areas is possible and should be avoided. The procedure is painless and is performed under local anesthesia.

The use of implanters necessitates a high level of skill and experience, but they allow us to fully control the depth, direction, and angle of placement for each graft we place. This is critical for producing natural-looking results.

Which Is the Better Hair Transplant Method: FUE or FUT?

The following are the primary drawbacks of FUT:
The scar from FUT or strip surgery is quite visible. The exact number of grafts extracted cannot be controlled. It does not allow us to restore small areas where only a few grafts are required. We can only perform one or two FUT procedures in a lifetime. FUT takes longer to recover from and is more painful. When removing the strip, a significant number of follicles are always lost, which is unavoidable. FUT has no place in body hair extraction.

The advancement of FUE has catapulted the field of hair transplant surgery to the elite minimally invasive status. The prospect of a nearly scarless surgery appeals to both the patient and the surgeon.

The SENECA Direct FUE hair transplantation technique is a minimally invasive procedure that involves extracting hair follicles from the donor area (back and sides of the head) and implanting them directly to the affected area (recipient area). To ensure great results every time, the entire procedure is performed only by doctors trained and certified by Seneca Training & Research Centre, and under strict Seneca Quality Standardization Protocols.

During the implantation phase, we use the Implanter, a specially designed tool that allows us complete control over the depth, direction, and angle of each hair follicle placement. The transplanted hairs continue to grow for a lifetime and do not fall out, providing a 100% natural result.

Women suffering from hair loss frequently ask our professionals at Seneca, the causes of their hair loss, as well as the solution to their problem. A woman’s self-esteem is frequently affected by a change in her hair pattern, but more importantly, it frequently flags health issues that require attention.

Women’s hair loss can be brought on by a variety of factors, including stress, diet, lifestyle, heredity, age, and environment. Another major factor contributing to hair loss is hormonal fluctuations. For instance, 40% of women notice their hair thinning after menopause.

Alopecia is the scientific term for hair loss and is divided into two major categories, scarring, and non-scarring.

Scarring Alopecia is the category of hair loss that leads to the formation of scar tissue. Some examples of this category are Lichen, Lupus Erythematosus, Neoplasms, Trauma, Trichotillomania, etc.

Non-scarring alopecia is a category where hair loss does not lead to scarring. Some examples of this category are Androgenetic Alopecia, Diffuse Alopecia (which can be caused by drugs, endocrinopathies, etc), Alopecia Areata (autoimmune disease), etc.

The female version of a Hair transplant

The majority of hair transplant commercials may be directed toward men, but women may also suffer from Hairloss and wish for healthy, thick, and lustrous hair. Hair is frequently one of the sources of pride and confidence for women when it comes to displaying their femininity. But what happens when hair thinning appears and hair loss becomes apparent? Seneca has the best, most individualized hair loss treatment plan, that also caters to ladies as the brighter solution.

Treatments and hair transplant

prp treatment

In order to stop further loss and promote hair regrowth before you make the decision to have hair transplantation, early diagnosis and treatment are essential in the case of hair loss, as they are for the majority of health issues that we deal with in our life. The choice of treatment modality depends on the cause’s diagnosis. Depending on the circumstance, the treatment may comprise so-called conservative treatments, such as topical lotions, shampoos,  vitamins, and autologous mesotherapy (PRP). It is crucial to remember that none of the aforementioned therapies will completely stop hair loss; rather, they will only temporarily delay it. The only effective remedy for this is hair transplantation, which neither reverses nor interferes with any other treatments.

Hair transplant with Direct FUE at Seneca

The Direct Fue hair transplantation method we have developed at Seneca uses hair follicles, which are extracted from the donor area (the back and sides of the scalp, i.e. the zone of permanent hair) and are implanted, each one separately, in the affected area (recipient zone), after the direction, depth and angle are determined.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and only by certified doctors, who adhere to strict quality protocols, such as the Total Care System that we have established at Seneca, after 35 years of experience in hair transplant. Once in the right position, the hair follicles develop naturally and follow their usual life cycle.

Hair transplant with a 100% natural result

seneca hair transplant

Personalized treatment is key to a successful hair transplant and a 100% natural result that will last a lifetime. This is carried out based on medical protocols, face proportions, needs, age, and expectations of the patient. The hair follicles are handpicked and extracted one by one from the donor area, using a specifically designed disposable tool.

Hair follicles are then kept at a specific low temperature and in a special preservation solution, the Hypothermosol®, which enhances their growth after the implantation. We do not split or cut the grafts. With minimum handling, we achieve the maximum growth rate.

Finally, hair follicles are implanted directly into the affected area using the Implanter, a tool with a diameter of 1mm or less, without having to create holes or slits. With the Implanter, doctors can control the depth, the direction, and the angle of placement.

As the procedure at Seneca is carried out entirely by a skilled medical doctor highly trained and certified, 99% of patients do not face any side effects.  Headache, swelling, itching, or tenderness might occur in the implanted area in a few rare cases. If so, the symptoms are light,( mild painkillers can be administered )and subside within the next few days.

Within only two-three months after the procedure, the patient will see significant hair growth and in 10-12 months she will have her final, natural and beautiful result. Read here for more details on when to expect hair transplant results.

Hair transplants at Seneca

The clinic offers a Seneca Direct FUE hair transplant (Image: Seneca Medical Group)

Seneca Medical Group has been running for 35 years across Greece and Europe, with one clinic in Glasgow and two diagnostic centres in Edinburgh & Aberdeen, and specialises in hair transplants as a form of treatment for hair restoration.

The group is passionate about providing people with opportunities and aims to help the local communities by supporting charity events and even organizing tree plantations throughout Greece.

If you are experiencing hair loss or hair thinning issues, you may choose to have a hair transplant. At Seneca, the type of hair transplant that is performed by the trained staff is called a Seneca Direct FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). This is where the hair follicles are extracted from the donor area and implanted directly into the recipient (balding) area.

For this type of hair transplant at Seneca, it is not necessary to shave your hair before the surgery. You should start to see the results of the hair transplant within two months of having the surgery, and it can take up to 12 months to see the full results of the transplant.

Like any cosmetic surgery, hair transplants are an invasive procedure. They are not risk-free and are not to be performed on anyone under 18 years old. Always seek independent medical advice before undergoing any medical procedures.

The surgeon who will be performing the hair transplant at Seneca should provide you with advice and guidance as to how to both prepare for your hair transplant and also how to look after yourself once you have had the surgery, to ensure that your transplant can grow as well as possible.

The 10th Annual Meeting of the FUE Europe Society was held on September 15-17 in Athens, where speakers from all over the world participated and discussed all the new trends, methods and techniques to treat hair loss.

Seneca Medical Group was at the core of the conference’s interest, both from its role as a sponsor but also as a speaker.

The thematic discussions of FUE EUROPE gave the opportunity to the participants for further deepening, evaluation, to get to know the latest technologies on regenerative medicine and to create an expanded network of experts around the methods of treating hair loss.

Throughout the conference, the latest and latest on FUE technology, which since 2002 has been the most popular hair implantation technique, were discussed.

Dr Gounnaris at FUE Europe

Speakers from every corner of the world conveyed their approaches to choosing the best approach for each case, including all FUE methods.

A number of experts, talked about the challenges around hair implantation by presenting a wide variety of surgeries, while at the same time introducing their concerns about the challenges they face for each method they adopt.

At the same time, the focus of interest was on the interactive presentations of the speakers of the conference, who transmitted audiovisual material from interventions they carried out in the past, analyzing the individual difficulties they faced at all stages of the process.

Special mention was made of the wide range of cases that cause hair loss, using, among other things, examples of serious diseases as well as accidents.

The conference was attended by experts from the field of hair transplantation such as Dr. John Cole, Dr. Christian Bisanga and Ron Shapiro. The Greek presence was also important, as experienced Greek hair transplant doctors participated in the event.

fue europe

Dr. Georgios Gounnaris, taking the baton to the podium of the speakers, made a historical review of the development of hair repair surgery, focusing on the presentation of the leaps that have been made in recent years in this field, culminating in the highlighting of the importance of the FUE technique.

Mr. Gounnaris then presented the great work of Seneca Medical Group, the No. 1 hair transplant organization in Europe that, as he explained, provides high quality hair transplant services and innovative systems for the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss.

He introduced the high-level standards of procedures followed, explained that the implantation process from the beginning to the end is carried out by 100% trained medical staff, who strictly follow the protocol.

As he pointed out, in the last five years manual tools have been replaced with motorized ones, with particularly important advantages, such as greater accuracy in extracting hair follicles, less injury and faster healing.

Dr Gounnaris pointed out that Direct Fue Technique ensures 100% natural result and full control of the direction and depth of the hair according to the required standards. Seneca is a pioneer in the treatment of hair loss

Seneca Medical Group’s clinics have stood the test of time and keep thriving with 35 years of experience.

The Direct FUE hair transplantation is performed entirely by doctors, who have been certified by the Training & Research Centre of SENECA, complied with the strict standardized protocols of Seneca Medical Group.

The company currently operates three clinics in Athens, Thessaloniki, Glasgow, a diagnostic centre in Edinburgh and a diagnostic centre in Aberdeen.

The clinic in Athens is the largest and most modern clinic for the treatment of hair loss in Europe.

Hair loss is an issue that concerns many men and women. Hair loss, or thinning hair, not only affects an individual’s appearance, it can also adversely impact your self-confidence.

A lack of proper information on the subject is pervasive today with many widespread myths and prejudices prevailing, which only exacerbate the problem.

Here, Seneca Medical Group, the leading medical group for hair loss treatment in Europe, addresses the popular myths around hair loss and answers many of the most common questions we hear from our patients.

Myth Number 1: Im in the early stages of hair loss. I don’t need to do anything yet.

Seneca Medical Group offers a wide range of options which can significantly delay further hair loss and help strengthen and protect the quality of your hair. Seneca Pure is Seneca’s nutritional supplement which guarantees thicker and healthier hair. Seneca Pure also does not contain substances such as gluten, lactose, sugar, salt or artificial colours, which makes it a completely safe and natural solution.

Seneca also offers Autologous Hair Mesotherapy (PRP), which both delays additional hair loss and can promote the growth of new hair follicles in areas where the hair is thinning.

Myth Number 2: My hair loss is hereditary. Theres nothing I can do about it.”

This is the most common myth and with good reason – the problem of hair loss can indeed be hereditary. This does not mean, however, that it’s irreversible. Both the nutritional supplements and Autologous Hair Mesotherapy mentioned coupled with our patented method of hair transplantation ensure a permanent, thick, and natural result, which is able to overcome even the most aggressive hereditary hair loss.

Seneca Before After result

Myth Number 3: I don’t believe hair transplants really work.

This is one we hear all the time unfortunately due to the countless clinics, doctors, and often technicians or trainees who’ve used (and many times still use) outdated and ineffective transplant methods. Seneca uses the Direct FUE method, an evolution of the traditional FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). This innovative method combined with the rigorous protocols of Seneca ensures a successful result every time.

Myth Number 4: I’ll only lose the transplanted hair again. Whats the point?

The rigorous protocols we’ve developed at Seneca to support our advanced techniques guarantee a natural, permanent result every time. We select the hair follicles to be used in the transplant one by one from the donor area using only the most modern and sophisticated tools. The hair follicles are then held at a specific temperature during the transplant procedure in a special Hypothermosol® solution, which further enhances their growth after placement. Seneca never separates, cuts, or processes the hair follicles, thus achieving the maximum germination rate. Through their meticulous system, Seneca is certain of a dense, natural and permanent result for each and every transplant performed.

Myth Number 5: “I’m worried it will be obvious I’ve had a hair transplant. How can I be sure that won’t happen to me?”

We’ve also seen these photos and cringe every time. This is yet another result of hair transplants being performed by technicians, rather than doctors, without proper training who use outdated and sometimes dangerous methods. Seneca’s Direct FUE hair transplant method uses hair follicles which are extracted individually from the back of the head and implanted individually in the hair loss area, thus ensuring a painless, natural result, incisions or marks every time. The procedure is performed only by doctors certified by the Seneca Training & Research Centre, who adhere to the strict quality protocols of the Seneca Medical Group.

Myth Number 6: Ive heard getting a hair transplant is really painful.

Seneca’s Direct FUE is a painless, minimally invasive method performed using only local anaesthesia. While undergoing hair transplants at Seneca’s state-of-the-art clinics, many of our patients watch TV or even sleep during the procedure. The only memory of the experience is a pleasant one —- the excellent, natural result of their new hair, which starts to appear after 2 months with the final and permanent results seen 8 to 12 months after the operation.

Myth 7 Number 7: I can combat my hair loss with a better diet.

While a proper and balanced diet is always helpful, problems such as hair loss, which often stem from hereditary factors unfortunately cannot be remedied with a change in diet alone. The range of Seneca’s innovative treatments and methods guarantee results at an affordable cost —- whether you’re looking for supplements alone for now, or to combine them with our Direct FUE hair transplant for a more permanent, natural result.

Myth Number 8: Im worried Ill experience an allergic reaction after the procedure.

Seneca’s Direct FUE is a completely safe procedure as rigorous protocols are followed at all of our Seneca clinics to ensure comfort and safety. 99% of patients show no complications at all following their transplant. In 1% of cases, a headache or slight sensitivity in the area where the operation was performed occurs, both of which are mild and disappear after only a few days.

Myth Number 9: Are there really any reliable hair transplantation professionals in Greece?

Seneca Medical Group is an award-winning medical services group trusted by clients from all over the world with some of the most experienced and qualified doctors and specialists in the treatment of hair loss worldwide. Due to rigorous protocols and advanced Direct FUE, Seneca is now leading Greece to become the new Silicon Valley in hair transplantation.

Seneca has already expanded to the UK with two clinics in Scotland, both in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and plans to open new clinics in France, the UK and the Netherlands by the end of 2022. Keep an eye out for upcoming signature medical tourism packages, which will allow you to combine a holiday in Greece with a top of the line hair transplant at a fraction of the cost in the US and many other countries.

At SENECA, the most innovative hair treatments are performed only by licensed doctors and under strict protocols to finally solve the problem of hair loss in all affected areas.

Dr Thanassi Athanassopoulos is a highly trained and awarded plastic and cosmetic surgeon providing plastic surgery for people across Northeast Scotland previously with the NHS and now privately. Dr Thanassi has been awarded The Dutch Association of Facial Plastic Surgeons Fellowship, The Duke of Kent Research Fellow, The Restore Research Trust Award, The Margaret Kenwright Young Scientist Award, King’s College London Distinction & The Royal College of Surgeons Research Fellowship.

‘Through this partnership, Seneca will look to strengthen its brand presence across the UK & will also be able to provide its patients with access to proper hair loss diagnosis in a fully established diagnostic centre”, says George Kottaridis, CEO of Seneca Medical Group.

When a recent client of ours in Scotland, Richard Leonard, came in for his first consultation he admitted his hair loss had become a significant concern in recent years, and he was finally hoping to do something about it. His decision to trust the Seneca Medical Group, the leading team in hair loss treatment and hair transplantation in Europe, with his transplant he now credits as being a life-changing experience. “From my first consultation with George and his team at the Glasgow clinic until the day of the procedure, I knew I was in good hands,” he explains, “Seneca let me know what to expect and supported me every step of the way.”

Richard says all of his concerns regarding the quality of the result were alleviated during his consultation once he learned the transplant would be performed with Seneca’s innovative Direct FUE method. The Direct FUE technique uses individual hair follicles, which are extracted from the back of the head (otherwise known as the donor area), and implanted directly in the affected area of hair loss. In Richard’s case, hair follicles were carefully implanted by one of our highly specialized doctors using our Implanter. This specially designed tool allows full control of the depth, direction and angle of placement of each hair follicle. The procedure itself was painless under local anaesthesia and completed in a few short hours.

“Following the transplantation, Seneca’s team gave me a detailed structured aftercare plan,”

says Richard, “And periodically called to check in on my results, which made me realize how sincere they are about their unique patient experience.” Though his transplant was only in February, Richard is already thrilled with how natural his results appear and can’t wait to see the full, permanent result in 4-6 months’ time.

“Needless to say, it isn’t easy to put your trust in a clinic’s claims for something as sensitive as your appearance,” Richard admits, “But my experience at Seneca proved to me

overcoming that fear for the amazing result that’s waiting on the other side of it is worth it. I highly recommend Seneca and consider them the platinum standard in hair transplantation and customer service.”

Seneca Medical Group, the leading medical organization in hair loss treatment, had a strong presence at the awards. An achievement that recognizes the leading role that Seneca has developed in the beauty industry. The award was presented at an event dedicated to those who work hard to improve our appearance and make us look and feel on top of the world.

The Awards showcased those who promote excellence, set the trends and take care of our hair, nails, lashes and make-up needs in the best possible way.

The Scottish Beauty Industry Awards were hosted by Gina McKie. She presented the winners as voted for by the public and congratulated them for being at the forefront of the industry.

A Spokesperson for The Scottish Beauty Industry Awards 2022 said: “The winners reflect the creativity and talent that flows within the profession. These specialists inspire others when it comes to the big and competitive world of aesthetics.

This achievement marks another year of success for Seneca Medical Group, the best team in hair loss treatment in Europe. Seneca’s clinics in Greece and Scotland are visited by people from all over the world who trust Seneca for this important change in their looks and lives. Moreover, until the end of the year, Seneca’s team will expand with new clinics opening in the UK, France and the Netherlands

‘’At Seneca, we look forward to a bright future with distinctions and awards for our clinics, but most important with happy and satisfied clients who trust our services.’’

At Seneca, our patient’s safety and success are of utmost importance. With this as our top priority, we have attracted patients from all over the world and gained their trust through our procedures’ consistent and incomparable quality.

Hair transplantation is an innovative medical procedure that, when performed by certified physicians in the field, gives a permanent solution to hair loss. It improves not only the patient’s appearance but their self-confidence as well. By contrast, a failed hair transplant exaggerates the problem by only providing a temporary solution, at best. While the initial investment might seem quite low, the long-term effects of having to reinvest and the burden of frustration are far more detrimental to the patient’s overall well-being.

In each of our Seneca centres, hair transplants are performed exclusively by experienced and certified doctors trained at the Seneca Training & Research Centre, and under strict Seneca Quality Standardization Protocols. We believe that each and every hair transplant session worldwide should be performed by a doctor specifically trained and certified in hair restoration, no exceptions. Unfortunately, this standard is not upheld in most clinics and beauty centres, which claim to carry out similar sessions to ours, but with staff that do not have the experience or certification and, in some cases, have no medical background whatsoever. This misleading information is the primary cause for concern now for every potential client. Having seen so many botched results and heard so many horror stories, they aren’t sure who to trust, especially when everyone’s stories sound the same.

During the recent meeting of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) held in Las Vegas, the slogan and main topic were, in fact, this very need for hair transplants to no longer be performed by technicians or specialists, but only by doctors. We were thrilled to hear this, but curious as to why now? Why has it taken so long for this to become a mandatory standard in our industry?

What ISHRS is becoming aware of only now is not news at Seneca- only confirmation. This is a practice we established 15 years ago and have upheld ever since. We were the first medical organization worldwide to acknowledge the necessity for this procedure to be performed only by experienced doctors, specifically trained and certified in hair restoration, and to make this our standard.

Thinning hair can have such an impact on a person, it can cause stress, anxiety and loss of self-esteem, making you feel like you’d do anything to remedy the situation. Making a rash decision on a hair transplant can have diabolical consequences for a number of reasons. Firstly, the result can be unnatural looking, you may have a low follicle survival rate and worse still, so much damage can be done to the donor area that corrective surgery may not be a possibility.

Making the right decision on your hair transplant provider from the beginning is so important – to get a natural-looking result and to protect the donor area from trauma. In this article, we explain the difference between FUT, FUE and the Direct FUE methods and why Direct FUE stand head and shoulders above the industry in terms of process, quality and results.

Different Methods Explained

A hair transplant involves taking healthy hair follicles (from an area resistant to balding) and implanting them into the treatment area. Both the extraction phase and implantation phase are equally important. The key difference between FUT and FUE techniques are how the donor hair follicles are extracted. We explain below:

FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant)

FUT is one traditional technique where a long thin strip of scalp is removed, typically from lower down on the back of the head. The hair follicles are then divided into single units under a microscope.

The scalp from where the strip was removed is then sewn back together. It is a cheaper form of hair transplant as the extraction phase is quicker than alternative techniques, however, it leaves a significant scar that can be seen under short hair and if you are prone to keloid scarring, it can cause a very noticeable scar where the strip was removed.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)

FUE is another traditional technique where a punch is used to make a small circular cut in the skin around a hair follicle or group of follicles, removing them from the scalp, and leaving a small open hole.

The process is repeated until the surgeon has enough follicles to cover the treatment area. The holes heal to tiny white scars throughout the donor area and can be undetectable depending on the skill of the surgeon. These scars heal quicker and are less visible than FUT.

Direct FUE

The extraction on Direct FUE could be referred to as a micro-FUE as it doesn’t involve cutting into patients skin and only punches with a diameter of 1mm or less are used to extract hairs one by one from the donor area. This minimally invasive extraction is always done 100% by a certified surgeon ensuring consistency and high quality.

With both the FUT and FUE options, follicles are implanted the same way, by creating reception holes in the treatment area and placing the hair follicles into the holes with forceps, allowing little control over the angle, direction and depth. Implantation is normally done by technicians, not by a surgeon. With these traditional techniques, the focus is on how many follicles are extracted and little or no emphasis on follicle survival rate after implantation, which is crucial.

With the Direct FUE Technique, each follicle is separately placed directly in the affected area with the implanter, the specially designed tool for hair transplant and hair loss treatment.  With the implanter, doctors can control the depth, direction and angle in, which each graft is placed. Thus, the new hair does not fall, the grafts live longer and the final look is 100% natural. Direct FUE implantation of hair follicles with the implanter provides a natural look.

The Direct FUE hair transplant technique is a tested and standardised method, which takes the best approach in every step of the procedure to ensure maximum patient comfort and 100% natural-looking results. We, at Seneca we are so confident in our technique that we guarantee natural results.

What makes the Direct FUE Technique Superior?

1) Procedures are done by a Seneca Certified Doctor, not technicians

2) Minimum handling of hair follicles results in a high survival rate

3) Patented technique – the most delicate hair transplant method

4) HypothermosolTM

5) Natural results GUARANTEED

How much does a hair transplant cost?

When it comes to hair transplants, many people assume that they should base the cost on the number of grafts (hair follicles) to be extracted and implanted. The larger the number of grafts, the better value for money, right? Wrong. Older style hair transplant techniques require more of your precious donor hair follicles to be harvested. Using the correct technique allows for fewer follicles needed to achieve the desired result and caring for the donor area to allow for a future transplant if required is the priority. Too frequently, we have seen patients come to Seneca following a botched procedure with little to no option for a remedial procedure due to the damage inflicted or the “over harvesting” of the donor area.

Cheap hair transplants can have serious consequences for a variety of reasons. You can get a low price per graft but you will probably have a low follicle survival rate, so if you have a survival rate of 25-30%, then you will eventually make a very expensive hair transplant. Seneca is constantly achieving over 95% survival rate against other clinics ranging from 60-75%.

Hair loss – alopecia treatments at Seneca pricing start from £300 and Direct FUE from £2,500. The exact cost depends on the needs and the expectations of the patient.

The production of hair is not continuous but cyclic. The growth phase (Anagen) is succeeded through a transitional phase of regression (Catagen), by the rest phase (Telogen), and the cycle is preserved. During the relatively long Anagen phase (which lasts for 1,000 days, i.e. 2- 5 years), the matrix cells divide, become keratinized and hair is produced. The Catagen phase lasts for about 2-3 weeks and is practically unimportant. During the Telogen phase, which lasts for several months, the cell division stops, hair growth ceases, and the attachment of the hair to the base of the follicle becomes progressively weaker. Finally, as a result of ordinary traction, whether that be from combing, washing, its own weight, or a push by a new, growing hair, the old hair is eventually shed and discarded.

In most mammals, the cycles of follicular activity in each region of the body are synchronized, and waves of growth radiate from one or more centres. In humans, follicular activity has a mosaic pattern (dyssynchronous), with neighbouring follicles being at different stages of the hair growth cycle. At any given moment in time, roughly 90% of the terminal hair is in a growing phase and the other 10% is resting.

On average, 100 hairs are physiologically shed on a daily basis throughout the human scalp, at random. Certain common events can alter this shedding. For example, during pregnancy more follicles are maintained in the growing phase and there is less shedding than usual. After delivery, about 30% of the follicles simultaneously go into the resting phase, causing a temporary, self-correcting, profuse shedding generally about 3 months postpartum. A prolonged febrile episode induces an increase in telogen, with a period of shedding noticeably about 3-12 weeks later.

Finally, the hair cycle is also subject to chronological influences. During the autumn months, daily hair shedding may double, while there is diminished shedding in the spring. Both the duration of hair growth and the daily growth rate are greater in summer than in winter. The study of the hair cycle attitude is attainable today with the microscope.

This laboratory test, the Trichogramma, gives significant information on the diagnosis of hair loss. Consequently, we can summarize that the hair cycle consists of three phases, which have the following characteristics:

The Anagen Phase – Growth Phase

The Catagen Phase – Transitional phase

The Telogen Phase – Resting phase

Hair loss can occur at any age, and it can be due to a variety of factors – heredity, anxiety, infections or skin disorders, medication, poor diet, etc. Whichever the cause, hair loss is, for both men and women, an unpleasant phenomenon, affecting not only their physical appearance but also their self-confidence.

Although seeking a solution can be quite stressful, there is some good news. Glasgow and Edinburgh are home to some of the most well-equipped clinics for hair loss treatments and hair transplantations in Europe.

With 35 years of experience and thousands of people trusting the Seneca Medical Group for this significant transformation in their lives, the clinics of Seneca are a real game changer in hair loss treatment, providing top-quality results at an affordable cost.

————————————————————————————————

Why choose Seneca?

The Seneca team has 35 years of experience in the field of hair loss treatment with thousands of people from all over the world have trusted them for this significant change in their lives.

The group are very proud of the brand-new clinic in Athens – the biggest hair loss treatment clinic in Europe. Seneca’s clinics in Scotland (Glasgow and Edinburgh) are just as well equipped. It’s no surprise then, that the group is constantly growing as in 2022 new Seneca clinics are expected to (open/start) in the UK and The Netherlands.

In the clinics, the group use the most modern and innovative treatments, performed exclusively by specialists and under the strictest protocols with the aim of a permanent solution to hair loss. Seneca’s core philosophy is the Total Care System, a comprehensive system for the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss that ensures the most personalised approach to each patient.

Accurate diagnosis is the most important to Seneca. It should be noted that two out of three people treated for hair loss have not received a proper diagnosis beforehand. At Seneca, they provide a unique patient experience to everyone, whether it is about the diagnosis or treatment.

When it comes to hair transplantation, at Seneca they have developed the Direct FUE method, an evolution of the “traditional” FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method. In the traditional FUE technique, the hair follicles are implanted creating hole-force ups in the receiving area and placed with forceps, allowing little control in handling. This leads to a greater injury of the recipient area, and a greater chance of abuse of the hair follicles but also to a rather abnormal result.

In contrast, with the Direct FUE, each hair follicle is placed separately and directly on the affected area with the Implanter, a specially designed tool that allows the doctor to control the depth, direction and angle of placement of each implant. This ensures a 100% dense, natural, aesthetically pleasing and permanent result without creating holes or cracks. Therefore, anyone who is worried about hair loss, should talk to Seneca Medical Group and arrange an appointment at one of the clinics below.

“How many grafts do I need?” is just one of the many questions we get asked in hair restoration consultations. Most people do their research before they come into the clinic and already have an idea about how many grafts they “need” to achieve a good hair transplant, with a “good” hair transplant meaning a dense and natural-looking result.

We’ll explain why trying to calculate the number of grafts you will need from the information you find online can be deceiving and the science behind calculating the number of grafts that you actually need.

First Step: Hair Loss Assessment

The first step to finding out the correct number of grafts that you, as an individual, will need for a hair transplant with the correct density and 100% natural results, is to have a diagnosis appointment with a hair loss expert. During your diagnosis appointment, your scalp and hair will be assessed. Those with thicker hair may require fewer grafts to achieve the desired result. The extent of your hair loss will be measured, your medical history will be considered and a proper diagnosis for your hair loss will be made. To classify the extent of hair loss, the Norwood Scale (image below) is used.

norwood scale
Norwood Scale for men

With all of this information, a correct calculation for the number of grafts needed to achieve your desired result will be done. BUT, this number will be different for every clinic you visit. WHY? Because survival rates vary greatly between clinics and those with poor survival rates will increase the number of grafts needed to make up for it. Would you want to pay for 5000+ grafts when 10-50% of them don’t survive?

Seneca Total Care is an integrated system for the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss, which provides every patient with an effective and accurate solution based on each needs. Seneca’s state-of-the-art diagnostic systems and our team of specialists prepare and present a fully personalized treatment. In the final stage of diagnosis, the members of the scientific team of Seneca Medical Group study and approve each treatment plan separately and the patient enjoys a fully scientific and personalized experience.

SENECA Direct FUE hair transplant system uses healthy hair follicles, which are implanted one by one directly into the thinning area. We only choose and transplant healthy hair follicles from the donor area of the head or other parts of the body, which are genetically designed to grow for a lifetime. The entire procedure is performed only by doctors trained and certified by Seneca Training & Research Centre, and under strict Seneca Quality Standardization Protocols, to ensure great results every time.

With a special tool, the Implanter, we can control completely the direction, depth, and angle of placement of each hair follicle. After that, the hair follicles follow their normal course of life and grow naturally.

The transplanted hairs continue to grow for a lifetime and do not fall out, resulting in an absolutely natural result.

A hair transplant is a specialized medical procedure which requires the skill and expertise of a physician trained and certified in hair restoration. This is the only way to guarantee the patient’s safety and the outcome of the procedure.

Countless patients find their way to us in search of repair for the botched results they’ve received by entrusting the procedure to other clinics, that do not abide by these standards. A recent example comes from a patient who had not one, but two failed transplants in Europe and Turkey before discovering Seneca.

The description of his time at an Istanbul clinic is a patient’s worst nightmare.

“I previously had an implantation of synthetic hair done in Europe and was ashamed of the results.  I made the decision to travel to Turkey to try and fix the damage. What I lived there, I will never forget.  Before I made the arrangements, I had been assured that the hair transplant was performed only by doctors. I realized quickly upon arrival that nothing could be further from the truth though. I felt a sense of panic and dread in the pit of my stomach. I asked the nurses several times if the doctor could please see me himself, but this request was repeatedly ignored. It didn’t take long to realize that whoever was performing the transplant had no idea what was going on with my head. It felt like he was improvising as he went along. I started screaming—I couldn’t help it. This seemed to be the only thing that got the nurses to pay attention to me. They finally yelled for the doctor to come quickly. When he arrived, he approached me, pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and offered me one to help me relax.  I couldn’t believe this was happening!  There was no doubt this was an amateur I was dealing with and I had been completely misled. I just wanted it to be over and get out of there before my health was compromised any further. I am yet another victim of an unprofessional hair transplant which ended in tragedy in Turkey. ”

The Seneca Medical Group held a two-day repair and rehabilitation session for this unlucky patient to fix the tragic results of his synthetic hair implantation. He was immensely relieved to find himself in the hands of experts, finally, and was thoroughly satisfied with his experience and the journey to Athens.

Media worldwide are praising the Greek government for its handling of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, as it remains among the few countries in the world with low infection and death rates.

Greece reported a total of 182 Covid-19-related deaths and 3.049 confirmed cases of infection last night.

Greece was among the countries to immediately impose restrictive measures including shutting down schools, cancelling public events and closing down spaces, enforcing social distancing and imposing a strict stay-at-home order.

Reports add that Greece has also contained the spread of the virus significantly compared to European countries such as Belgium, Portugal and the Netherlands.

Summer holidays in Greece 2020

Greece is on the list of eight countries where one can enjoy their summer holidays this year without the fear of the coronavirus, as the German newspaper Bild reports.

“The first country I’ll visit after coronavirus? There’s no contest” The Telegraph’s digital travel editor, Oliver Smith, intends to visit when the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis ends. In his article, Smith refers to Greece’s beauties and special features as Greece aims to welcome tourists in July.

“To manage the Covid-19 crisis, look to Greece” The Guardian, “Greece has been a coronavirus success.” Washington Post, ‘’Greece Shows How to Handle the Crisis” Bloomberg and many other media praise Greece’s quick actions to impose lockdowns.

Described as a “noticeable – and perhaps surprising – exception” and given Greece’s swift response to the coronavirus outbreak, “the country might be able to get back on its feet sooner than others”, the Bloomberg report concludes.

Travellers from 29 countries will be eligible to travel to Greece for non-essential purposes from June 15, after Hellenic authorities decided to open the borders for several EU and non-EU countries in which the rate of infections has decreased.
